Nursing Home Negligence and Elder Abuse

We provide comprehensive services to injured people and their family members. Injuries sustained at a nursing home from a slip and fall, drug dispensing error, or other negligent action often cause family members severe grief. Placing a loved one in a long-term care facility is a difficult decision, made even more difficult by abuse and neglect. A representative case regarding nursing home negligence is highlighted below:

In the following case, a pretrial settlement was reached with the defendants for $500,000.00.

Plaintiffs are the adult children of an 84 year old man who was admitted to Woodbine Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on September 3, 1999. He was given a fair prognosis for recovery and rehabilitation when he entered Woodbine. However, on November 1, 1999, he was taken to North Kansas City Hospital because of his deteriorating condition. During the man's residency at Woodbine, he developed decubitus ulcers. Some of these ulcers became infected. An ulcer on his left heel progressed to Stage III severity which resulted in severe vascular compromise and gangrene in his left leg. The elderly man was allowed to become malnourished. Although he was at high risk for falling, he was allowed to fall multiple times. One of these falls resulted in a large wound on his forehead. Upon his admittance to the hospital on November 1, 1999, it was determined his condition was serious and nothing could be done to save his life. He died on November 7, 1999, just two months after his admittance to Woodbine.

Your loved one's circumstances do not need to be as severe as the above example to contact an attorney.
